Costs of Care, in partnership with the ABIM Foundation, is putting out a call for innovative ideas and projects for teaching and implementing high value care among collaborative teams of clinicians, educators, quality improvement specialists, and health system administrators. Health care professionals from any discipline and level of training are invited to submit short abstracts that either describe a project they have already implemented or an idea for a project they believe could have promise in delivering better care at a lower cost.
"Across the country, healthcare providers are finding creative ways to address the growing challenges Americans face in affording care. We're excited to learn from these innovators and help share their insights broadly," says Neel Shah, MD, Founder and Executive Director of Costs of Care.
Costs of Care and the ABIM Foundation are once again launching the Value Challenge to inspire and share innovations among collaborative teams of clinicians, educators, quality improvement specialists, and health system administrators.
The Challenge builds on the ABIM Foundation’s Choosing Wisely® campaign, a national effort that encourages clinicians and patients to have conversations about avoiding unnecessary tests and treatments.
Last year's Challenge amassed over 80 diverse submissions, with Creating Value Innovator awardees focused on implementing high-value care in clinical practice and Teaching Value Innovator awardees focused on improving medical education curricula around delivering high-value care.
This year, we are expanding our Challenge to include two new awards: The Steven Schroeder Award for Outstanding Health Care CEO, which will be awarded to a CEO of a hospital or health care system who has demonstrated courageous and ethical leadership addressing the twin issues of affordability and quality of health care in their community; and The Humana Award for Innovation in Value-based Care, which will be awarded to a healthcare professional that improves or informs the practice of value-based care.
Winners of the Teaching Value Innovator, Creating Value Innovator, and The Humana Award for Innovation in Value-based Care will be recognized at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) National Forum in December 2018 in Orlando, Florida.
Winner of the The Steven Schroeder Award for Outstanding Health Care CEO will be recognized at the The Leapfrog Group Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner on December 4th, 2018 in Washington, D.C.
